Dengue fever is a viral infection spread by mosquitoes. The mosquitoes that carry the dengue virus are more common in areas of the world with tropical and subtropical climates, as is the case in our country, Costa Rica. The dengue test IgM IgG and NS1 is essential for detecting dengue virus infections and identifying whether the infection is primary or secondary. Dengue is transmitted by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes and typically presents with sudden fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, and rash.
The NS1 antigen can be detected early in infection, while IgM and IgG antibodies help determine the phase of the disease.
The dengue test analyzes the blood looking for signs of Dengue infection. There are two main types of tests; one looks for the virus and the other detects antibodies against the virus.
Antibodies are proteins made by your immune system to fight foreign substances like viruses.
